Profile of Maleic Anhydride
Maleic anhydride Properties
Maleic anhydride (also known as cis-butenedioic anhydride) is a white orthorhombic needle-like crystal. Its molecular formula is C4H2O3.
, with a molecular weight of 98.06. It has a melting point of 52.8°C, a boiling point of 202°C, a flash point of 103°C, and a relative density of 1.314. Maleic anhydride is easy to sublime, and soluble in water, alcohols and esters, while slightly soluble in carbon tetrachloride and crude gasoline. Both the dust and vapor of maleic anhydride are flammable and explosive; they are irritating to humans and can cause burns to the skin.
