The solution preparation process must strictly follow chemical laboratory-grade protocols. First, select containers made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which offers superior oxalic acid resistance compared to ordinary plastics. Glass containers may be used short-term, but long-term storage can cause sodium ion leaching, affecting solution stability.
When preparing, always measure the required amount of water first, then slowly pour the oxalic acid down the side of the container. This order must never be reversed. Experiments show that adding water to concentrated acid causes an instantaneous exothermic reaction reaching 80–100°C, which can easily lead to splashing accidents. Following the correct order keeps the temperature rise within a safe range.
For stirring, use a glass or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) stir bar, and mix continuously for 5–7 minutes until the solution is completely clear. Note that oxalic acid dissolution is an endothermic process. Allow the prepared solution to stand for 20–30 minutes to reach room temperature equilibrium, at which point the pH will stabilize in the ideal range of 1.5–2.0.
