What are the physical properties of sodium hydrosulfide?

2025-08-26

Physicochemical Properties of sodium hydrosulfide Solution
(1)Appears as colorless needle-like crystals in pure form, which are deliquescent, highly hygroscopic, and easily oxidized. Storage often leads to the release of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur. The industrial product is commonly a solution, appearing orange or yellow, with a bitter taste.
(2) Highly soluble in water and alcohol. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. Decomposes upon contact with acids, generating hydrogen sulfide (e.g., reacts with HCl to produce H₂S).
(3) Readily hydrolyzes in moist air to form sodium hydroxide and hydrogen sulfide.

Incompatible Materials: Strong oxidizing agents, acids, zinc, aluminum, copper, and their alloys.
