What are the uses of maleic anhydride?
2025-12-23
Maleic anhydride (also called cis-butenedioic anhydride) is a key organic chemical raw material, ranking third among anhydrides (after phthalic anhydride and acetic anhydride). It is mainly used to produce unsaturated polyesters and alkyd resins, and also finds applications in pesticides, coatings, inks, lubricant additives, papermaking chemicals, textile finishing agents, and surfactants. Derivatives from maleic anhydride include 1,4-butanediol, γ-butyrolactone, tetrahydrofuran, maleic acid, fumaric acid, and tetrahydrophthalic anhydride—all important organic and fine chemicals.
