Propanoic Acid Leak Emergency Response
Evacuate personnel from the leak-contaminated area to a safe zone immediately and isolate the area, strictly restricting access. Eliminate all ignition sources. Emergency responders should wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and acid/alkali-resistant clothing. Avoid direct contact with the leaked material. Stop the leak if possible without risk. Prevent entry into sewers, drainage ditches, or other confined spaces.
Propanoic Acid Minor Leak: Absorb with sand or other non-combustible materials. Alternatively, flush with large amounts of water, and dilute the runoff before discharging into the wastewater system.
Propanoic Acid Major Leak: Construct dikes or pits to contain the spill. Use foam to reduce vapor hazards. Apply water spray to cool and dilute vapors, protect personnel, and render the leaked material non-flammable. Transfer using explosion-proof pumps to tank trucks or dedicated collectors for recovery or disposal at a waste treatment facility.
