Sodium hydrosulfide Reaction Principle
Sodium hydrosulfide is produced by absorbing hydrogen sulfide with liquid caustic soda. The reaction formula is as follows:NaOH + H₂S = NaHS + H₂O
The absorption process of sodium hydrosulfide is carried out under negative pressure. In essence, the reaction proceeds in two steps:
First, sodium hydroxide absorbs hydrogen sulfide to form sodium sulfide:2NaOH + H₂S = Na₂S + 2H₂O
Once the sodium sulfide is saturated, it continues to absorb hydrogen sulfide to form sodium hydrosulfide
Na₂S + H₂S = 2NaHS
The absorption of hydrogen sulfide by caustic soda occurs in the gas-liquid phase. One molecule of H₂S reacts with one molecule of caustic soda, and the reaction rate is fast. As the sodium sulfide approaches saturation, crystal formation occurs, making the reaction mixture viscous and significantly reducing fluidity. The heat of reaction also raises the solution temperature, further slowing the reaction rate. The absorption rate of hydrogen sulfide by sodium sulfide becomes much slower than in the initial stage, and as sodium hydrosulfide approaches saturation, the reaction rate decreases even more, often resulting in incomplete absorption of H₂S gas.
