Sodium Hydrosulfide Solution
Sodium hydrosulfide solution.Preparation of Sodium Hydrosulfide via Reaction of Sodium Ethoxide with Dry Hydrogen Sulfide.
In a 150 mL flask equipped with a sidearm, add 20 mL of freshly distilled anhydrous ethanol and 2 g of clean sodium metal pieces (free of oxide layers). Fit the flask with a reflux condenser and a drying tube, initially sealing the sidearm. Once sodium ethoxide begins to form, add approximately 40 mL of anhydrous ethanol in portions until the sodium ethoxide is completely dissolved.sodium hydrosulfide solution.
Insert a glass tube through the sidearm, extending it to the bottom of the solution, and introduce dry hydrogen sulfide gas (ensure a tight seal to prevent air from entering the flask). Continue until the solution is saturated. Filter the solution to remove any precipitates, then transfer the filtrate to a dry conical flask.
