The Role of Sodium Hydrosulfide in Flotation-1

The Role of Sodium Hydrosulfide in Flotation.

Sodium hydrosulfide can enhance the adsorption capacity of certain collectors on sulfide ore surfaces, increasing flotation recovery rates. It alters the electrical properties of the mineral surface, favoring collector adsorption.

It can serve as a sulfidizing agent to treat oxidized nickel ores, improving their floatability by forming a nickel sulfide layer on the ore surface and enhancing hydrophobicity.

Sodium hydrosulfide prevents further oxidation of sulfide ores in the pulp, preserving their inherent floatability. It forms a protective film on the mineral surface, blocking oxygen from contacting the ore.

In stibnite flotation, sodium hydrosulfide suppresses gangue minerals to improve the flotation enrichment ratio of antimony ore. By adsorbing onto gangue mineral surfaces and forming a hydrophilic layer, it makes them difficult to float.

It forms complexes with metal ions on the mineral surface, altering the mineral’s surface chemical properties and thus affecting its floatability. The formation of these complexes modifies the surface charge and reactivity.
