Propionic acid formula

How does propionic acid react with carbonates?

Propanoic acid can participate in double displacement reactions with weak acid salts such as carbonates:

    Propanoic acid Reaction with carbonate:
    2CH₃CH₂COOH + CO₃²⁻ → 2CH₃CH₂COO⁻ + H₂O + CO₂↑

Due to its weakly acidic nature, propanoic acid is corrosive to many metals. For example, it reacts with metals such as iron and magnesium to produce hydrogen gas and the corresponding metal propanoate.
